WATERVILLE, Me. – Wesleyan men's soccer held off Colby to win their third straight game Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory. The Cardinals have now gone nine straight matches without a loss, stretching back to September 14th. Wesleyan moves to 8-2-2 (4-2-2 NESCAC), sliding into the top 4 of the league standings, while Colby falls to 6-6-1 (3-4-1 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • In a scoreless first half, Wesleyan had their fair share of scoring opportunities. Lucas Ruehlemann '25 had two of six total shots for the Cardinals in the first 45 minutes
  • Wesleyan kept up the attack early in the second half, with three shots in the first 15 minutes including a Ruehlemann strike that hit the crossbar. Finally the Cardinals ended the scoreless drought in the 58th minute when Nick Wallick '22 put in his first goal of the season after Dane Harmaty '24 played a great ball to Ruehlemann who hit the crossbar on a straight shot from just inside the 18 yard box. The ball carromed out to Wallick who calmly slid home the game's first goal
  • Noah Hartzfeld '24 gave the Cardinals an insurance goal in the 72nd minute, as he headed home a great crossing pass from Wallick on the left wing as the Cardinals were suddenly up by two
  • Three yellow cards came out over the next 15 minutes, with two on Wesleyan and one on Colby. The physical play ended up leading to an eventual penalty kick for Colby's Ethan Franco, who capitalized making the game 2-1 with less than a minute remaining
