MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The No. 17 ranked Wesleyan women's soccer team celebrated its 10 seniors on Senior Day with a convincing 3-0 win against No. 11 ranked Hamilton on Saturday morning. The Cardinals handed the Continentals (10-1-2, 7-1-2 NESCAC) their first loss of the season while Wesleyan improves their record to 11-1 with two games remaining in the regular season. This marks the second-highest single-season win total in program history, just one shy of the 12-win 1994 campaign.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • It took two minutes for the Cardinals to kick off Senior Day with goal from Melissa Wilhelm '22. After a handball foul on Hamilton at the top of the penalty box, Wilhelm scored on a penalty kick to the bottom left of the net to go to take early 1-0 lead.
  • Hamilton didn't get a shot on-goal until the 15th minute, and didn't get a corner kick until the 32nd minute.
  • Wesleyan controlled the first half of the game, getting off eight shots and two corner kicks compared to the Continentals' four shots and zero corners.
  • The Cardinals got things going in the second half even quicker than the first, the second goal of the game scored just 49 seconds in. Audrey Lavey '23 was on the finishing end of a great sequence that saw Julia Meehan '21.5 throw in from the far sideline to the head of Grace Devanny '23. She then flicked to the far post where Audrey Lavey '23 had an initial attempt blocked, only to easily clean up the rebound to extend the lead, 2-0.
  • In the 62nd minute, the Cardinals scored their third goal of the game after a cross from Lavey gave Grace Devanny '23 the chance to set up Andrea Chiapetti '24 for the shot and goal. Wesleyan led 3-0.
