BABSON PARK, Mass. - The No. 6 nationally-ranked Babson Beavers took home the win against Wesleyan field hockey at Babson Park Thursday night. The Beavers move to 10-1 on the season, while the Cardinals drop to 4-5.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The first goal of the night came five minutes in, off a redirect by Lauren Curley. Curley was able to connect with a ball that was shoulder level and put it in the back of the cage.
- The Beavers were able to strike again in the first quarter as a centered ball bounced around before ending in a penalty stroke. Meara Hanyon took the stroke, and pushed the game to 2-0
- Caitlin Grant '22 came in and gave the Cardinals good minutes in the second quarter, producing three saves as the Beavers were applying constant pressure
- Babson broke through again late in the second period as Jessica Evans put through her third goal of the season off a centering feed from Lauren Curley
- Wesleyan had a few good pushes in the 4th quarter, leading to some good scoring chances. This included two shots and four corners, with one of which leading to a Melanie Lim '24 goal from the top of the circle
- Babson put the finishing touches on a 4-1 victory with a goal in the final minute by Quinn Greer off a corner taken by Brianne McGrath
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Kylie Nelson-Marois '24 and Grant combined to save 12 of 16 shots on-net tonight, Wesleyan's second double digit save total of the season
- Babson produced 22 shots Thursday night, their fifth game this season with 20+ shots
- The Beavers' McGrath added to her team-leading 19 points with an assist in the final minute of play
- Babson totaled 11 corners, eight of which came in the first half. Beating out Wesleyan in total corners 11-6
