Men’s Basketball Dominates in Herb Kenny Tournament Opener, Defeating Pratt Institute 87-25

MIDDLETOWN, CT- Men's basketball dominates in Herb Kenny Tournament opener against Pratt Institute, defeating them 87-25. The Wesleyan men left doubt, controlling the game from the tip off. They outscored the Cannoneers 39-11 in the first half, before exploding for 48 points in the second half while holding Pratt Institute to just 14 points. Their 62 point win, brings their point differential on the season to a ridiculous +178 through four games. Wesleyan wins their fourth straight to start the year, while Pratt Institute falls to 1-4 on the year.
In other Herb Kenny Tournament action, WPI defeated Mitchell 103-61. WPI was led by John Adams who put up 27 points (13-15 FG) and 14 rebounds in only 27 minutes of action.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Wesleyan opened the game about as quickly as you could, with Preston Maccoux '23 hitting a three pointer just five second into the contest. Wesleyan would then go on a 13-0, capped off by a Sam Peek '22 triple
  • The Wesleyan defense held Pratt Institute without a field goal for over 12 ½ minutes before Patrick O'Gorman delivered a three to stop the bleeding. Wesleyan led 25-4.
  • The second half started much like the first, with the Cardinals going on a 12-0 run that widened their lead to 39.
  • The second half lead extended to 63 when Jared Langs '25 put through two of his season high seven points on a layup late in the second half
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • 15 Cardinals scored in the season high 62-point victory
  • Sam Peek was in double digits for points for the 4th straight game
  • Wesleyan turned 18 Cannoneers turnovers into 35 points
  • Cardinals dominated the glass, outr-rebounding Pratt Institute 54-20

Wesleyan advances in the tournament to play WPI (4-0) Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm at Silloway Gymnasium. This game will follow Pratt vs. Mitchell at 12:30 pm.
