MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team returned to the pool for its first meet in over 22 months as the Cardinals competed against Bates and Wheaton on Saturday from the Wesleyan Natatorium. The Cardinals were downed by both Bates (206-93) and Wheaton (185-114) on the day, falling to 0-2 on the season.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Olivia Stevenson '25 tallied a fourth place finish in the 1000 free (11:00.48) and somehow managed to swim in the very next event (200 free) where she finished with an impressive fifth place result (2:00.64).
- Izzy Pennington '24 placed third in the 100 back, clocking in at 1:00.80, defeating all Wheaton swimmers in the event.
- Jasmine Luu '25 was the runner-up in the 200 fly (2:15.28) while Amanda McHugh '22 (2:20.05) was right behind in fourth place
- Megan Bauerle '24 placed fifth in the 50 free with a time of 25.35 seconds
- Victoria Carroll '24 was fourth in the 200 back (2:13)
- Delaney Hopkins '25 (3rd, 2:30.59), Mengmeng Gibbs '22 (2:31.62) and Ainsley Dodson '25 (2:31.97) all showed well in the 200 breast
- Luu placed fourth in the 100 fly (1:00.43) while Ilaria Valentini '25 was right behind in fifth place (1:00.54) in the same event
- Dodson placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:13.40) while Gibbs was fifth (2:15.61)
- Wesleyan showed very well in the diving events as Talia Lanckton '22 placed second in the 1m (193.34) while Carolina Crosby '25 was third (190.65). Later, in the 1m event, Lanckton was runner-up again (205.58) while Crosby was fourth (182.25)
