Men’s Hockey Comes Up Short Against Salve Regina, 4-1

MIDDLETOWN, CT- Men's hockey comes up short against Salve Regina, 4-1 Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals scored a late 3rd period goal to avoid being shutout. Wesleyan has now lost three straight games, dropping them to 1-3-1 on the season. Salve Regina improves to 5-4, snapping a two game losing streak.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Salve Regina came out firing, as George Senott found himself open for a shot just a minute into the game that hit the post and went up into the air before it was cleared by the Wesleyan defense
  • Wesleyan survived an early power play for the Seahawks, as they only allowed one off-target shot for the entire two minutes. However, less than two minutes later the Seahawks broke the tie when Braenden Young beat Marc Smith '24 to give them a 1st period lead
  • Wesleyan couldn't come through on a 5-minute power play to end the first period, manufacturing only two shots on goal. The game went into the 2nd period 1-0 in favor of Salve Regina
  • After a Wiggle Kerbrat '23 won faceoff, the Seahawks stole the puck and immediately had a two on one scoring chance. Mitch Walinski ripped a shot from the left side, Marc Smith made a kick save, but the rebound went straight to Seth Benson for the goal, 2-0 Salve Regina
  • The Wilinski to Benson connection produced another goal late in the second period to extend the Seahawks' lead to 3-0. They connected for a third time with a minute left in the period to give Benson a hat trick and Wilinski his 3rd assist of the evening  
  • Wesleyan showed some fight in the 3rd period, outshooting the Seahawks 9-2 (on-target). They avoided the shutout halfway through the 3rd when Wiggle Kerbrat found Colin Cobb '23 to cut the deficit to 4-1
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Wiggle Kerbrat is now tied for the team lead with two assists
  • Colin Cobb added his team leading 3rd goal of the year
  • Marc Smith made 12 saves
  • Wesleyan out-shot Salve Regina 23-16
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
Wesleyan will have a short break before returning to Spurrier-Snyder Rink to get into NESCAC play. They will start with Hamilton (2-1) on December 3rd at 7 PM.
