MIDDLETOWN, CT- Men's Hockey snaps their three-game losing streak Friday night, taking down Hamilton 4-3. The overtime game winner was scored by
Go Uemura '23 off a rebound from a shot by
Emmet Powell '23 just over a minute into the overtime period. In a back and fourth game that saw the scored tied three different times, the Cardinals were able to prevail to improve to 2-3-1. Hamilton will drop to 2-2 on the year.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Hamilton jumped out early with a goal scored by Matt Gellerman to give the Continentals an early 1-0 lead. Cade Groton beat Cardinals' goalkeeper Erik Voloshin '24 to the puck before quickly wrapping a pass from behind the net to Gellerman
- There was no shortage of shots over the next 10 minutes, however there were no goals to show for it until Emmet Powell delivered a wrist shot that snuck through with seven minutes remaining in the period off the feed from Colin Cobb '23
- Fred Allaire forced a turnover in Wesleyan's attacking zone, then took the puck the length on the ice where he delivered a rocket over the shoulder of Voloshin to give Hamilton a 2-1 lead to open the second period
- Wesleyan survived a 4 on 3 power play and quickly turned it into a scoring opportunity. Alex O'Connor '22 came off the Wesleyan bench, behind the defense receiving a long outlet pass that gave him a 1 on 1 opportunity with the Hamilton goalkeeper. His shot was turned away, but Wesleyan kept the puck in Hamilton's zone. Wiggle Kerbrat '23 delivered a pass to a wide open Matt Zandi '22 who tied the game at two
- Wesleyan struck again in the 2nd period, when Colin Cobb intercepted a pass in stride and took it the other way. He stopped on a dime before delivering a pass to Emmet Powell for his 2nd goal of the contest, giving the Cardinals the lead going into the final period
- Wesleyan had three power play chances in the 3rd, but it was Hamilton who put through the tying goal four minutes into the period. Jordi Jefferson scored, evening the game at three
- The 3 on 3 overtime period didn't last long. Emmet Powell ripped a shot that ricocheted off the goalie's shoulder and up into the air, landing behind him just over a minute in. Go Uemura cleaned it up, giving Wesleyan their 2nd win on the year
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
