Given the NESCAC safety protocols for spring sports, Wesleyan plans to resume conference competition in April. With the health and safety of our students, coaches, faculty, staff, and the greater community foremost in mind, resumption of play will occur only if conditions related to the pandemic remain favorable, and policies and protocols across Connecticut and New England permit.
Issues involved in the safe return to play have been reviewed in detail by members of the Pandemic Planning Committee and the athletics administrative team. The protocols for NESCAC competition go beyond those recommended by the NCAA and take every available measure to maintain a safe environment for our student-athletes, coaches, and the campus community.
The University intends to support conference competition for all spring sports – including baseball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rowing, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field – provided that conditions allow and a minimum of six conference institutions plan to participate. The schedules, which will be formed in the coming days after all of the NESCAC institutions have declared their intentions, will be regional in scope, reduced in number, and commence in April.
At this point, attendance at home competitions will be closed to all spectators. Many of the athletic events will be streamed on the Northeast Sports Network (NSN). The status of all contests will be contingent upon federal, state, and local restrictions as well as institutional policies and will be subject to change throughout the spring season, depending upon pandemic conditions.
The Campus Pandemic Committee, campus medical personnel, and the Athletic Department will continue to monitor the evolving situation and respond to changes at the federal, state, and local levels as well as to updated guidance and best practices from the CDC and NCAA.
* The following guidelines are updated as of March 11, 2021. Check back with athletics.wesleyan.edu for the most up-to-date information regarding a return to play and stay connected to Wesleyan Athletics by following us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
