MEDFORD, Mass. – Jumbo senior Claire Foley became just the third player in Tufts field hockey history to score four or more goals in a game on Tuesday night as she led the Jumbos to a 7-0 NESCAC victory over the Wesleyan field hockey team at Ounjian Field.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Just three minutes into the game, Foley got started when a Wesleyan defender turned the ball over right in front of the Cardinal cage. Foley made a move around Wesleyan keeper Caitlin Grant '22 and tapped the ball into an open net
- Tufts added a second first quarter goal with a corner from Melissa Manzello to Beth Krikorian, who fired a shot from the top-left of the circle with 2:37 left in the quarter
- Jumbo senior Gillian Roeca earned the first of her three assists to Foley on the evening when she found her teammate wide open in front of the Wesleyan goal for a 3-0 Jumbo advantage early in the second quarter
- Foley turned to playmaker for the fourth Tufts goal less than three minutes later, taking the ball in front of the cage and passing to freshman Kylie Rosenquest at the right post
- Tufts added another before the halftime break and added one more goal in each the third and fourth quarters
- Wesleyan put a pair of shots on-target in the second half. One by Diana Schwarz '23 from close range along the left goal line which was saved by Tufts keeper Sam Gibby. The other by Annabel Cincotta '25 off the Cardinals' only corner of the game in the fourth quarter
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Tufts finished with a 23-2 shots advantage and led 5-1 on penalty corners
- Grant made two saves in her 37+ minutes of action while Kyle Nelson-Marois '24 came on and made three saves in her 22:48 of work
- Foley was lights-out for the Jumbos, finishing with four goals and one assist for a nine-point night
