SPRINGFIELD, MA- Women's swimming and diving had a fantastic showing Saturday as they defeated both Roger Williams and Springfield in Massachusetts. They were easily able to defeat Roger Williams by a score of 204 -86. It was a much closer contest against Springfield, as the Cardinals were able to prevail 161-138. Wesleyan had six first place finishes from four different individuals. They have now won their last four meets and will return to action this Wednesday the 19
th to take on Trinity at the Wesleyan Natatorium.
Olivia Stevenson '25 had herself a day, placing first in two events and second in another. She started her day with a 1
st place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:59.38. She then took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.77 that was just behind the leader (1:59.59). Stevenson finished up with another 1
st place finish in the 500 free (5:26.50).
The 200 medley relay team performed well, coming in first with a time of 1:52.45. They were made up of
Izzy Pennington '24,
Mengmeng Gibbs '22,
Jasmine Luu '25, and
Megan Bauerle '24.
Gibbs was another individual who placed in multiple events. She placed 2
nd in the 100 breast at 1:09.89, nearly taking first (1:09.84). Gibbs then placed 1
st in the 200 IM, beating out her opponents with a time of 2:16.85.
Wesleyan swept the 1m dive, having the top three scorers.
Zoe Paglia '23 came in first (212.10), followed by
Talia Lanckton '22 (190.50) in 2
nd, and
Ola Szopa '24 (180.30) in 3
rd.
Wesleyan had a couple more strong performances on the day, including a 1
st place finish by Lanckton in the 3m dive (199.72). Pennington came in 2
nd in the 100 back (1:01.21), Luu came in 2
nd in the 200 butterfly (2:14.52), and
Delaney Hopkins '25 came in 2
nd in the 200 breast (2:31.60).
