Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Hockey Defeated by Tufts in OT, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, CT- Men's hockey was defeated by Tufts Friday night by a score of 3-2. Wesleyan was able to put through a late 3rd period equalizer by virtue of a Tyler Levine '22 finish in the crease to force overtime. In a 3 on 3 overtime, Tufts ended it within the first minute when Cam Newton finished off a 2 on 1 to give the Jumbos a 3-2 OT win. Wesleyan takes their 2nd straight loss, falling to 5-6-2 (4-3-2 NESCAC) on the year. Tufts wins their 2nd game of the season, improving to 2-9-1 (2-5-1 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The game began with more hits than shots between the two NESCAC foes. Scoring chances were hard to come by for the first few minutes, as the defenses made it hard to get clean looks. Wesleyan had their best opportunity of the 1st period with a 2 on 1 three minutes in, however a nice defensive play broke up the pass
  • Wesleyan got going in the 2nd, creating multiple scoring opportunities that ultimately turned into the 1st goal of the game. D.J Dixon '24 won a faceoff that went straight to Mike Dunderdale '23 for the slapshot from just inside the blue line that found it's way into the back of the net
  • Tufts responded with a goal of their own off of a faceoff just four minutes later. Nick Schultze won a faceoff, that led to a Brendan Skarda wrap around goal from behind the net
  • Both teams capitalized on power play opportunities in the 3rd to keep the game even at two. First it was Tom Tresca for the Jumbos with 12 minutes left, then Tyler Levine found a loose puck in front of the net to retie the game two minutes later. He was assisted by Matt Zandi '22 and Wiggle Kerbrat '23
  • In overtime Wesleyan had a quick breakaway less than a minute in, but Dixon's shot went wide. Tufts would make good of a 2 on 1 the other way. Cam Newton finished off the play giving Tufts the OT win
