Early in the second set, Ortiz went on a 6-point service run that gave the Cardinals a four-point lead early on. Endicott and Wesleyan went back and forth, with the Cardinals holding the lead, but by no more than four points the entire set. Eventually, Wesleyan finished off the set with a 25-21 victory.Â
The first 10 points of the third set were close until Wesleyan started grasping the advantage. Another service run from Ortiz saw the Cardinal lead ballon up to 17-10 and the Gulls had dug themselves in a hole that they could not get out of. Wesleyan finished the third set and the match with a 10-point lead, 25-15, against an Endicott team that is undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Cardinals are ready for their 8th NESCAC match at Noon tomorrow. They face a great test in the Bowdoin Polar Bears, the reigning NESCAC Champion, who defeated Wesleyan twice last season including by a 3-1 margin in the NESCAC title match played in Brunswick.Â
