Women’s Soccer Downs Western Connecticut, 3-0

DANBURY, CT. – Wesleyan women's soccer takes down Western Connecticut State University 3-0 Tuesday night in Danbury. The Cards look to build momentum moving into the final two NESCAC regular season games of the season. Dani Milovanov '23 had her fingerprints all over this one, scoring two goals and adding an assist for a five-point night to finish the non-conference slate. Wesleyan is now 6-4-3, as they look to clinch their spot in the NESCAC tournament this week. Western Connecticut State University drops to 10-5-1.

The two Connecticut teams matched up for the 7th time in their histories on Tuesday, with Wesleyan holding a 4-3 record against their in-state foes. The Cardinals have taken the last four contests after losing the first three meetings. In their last meeting in 2018, the Cardinals took home the 4-0 victory.

Wesleyan took control of this game much like they did back in their 2018 matchup, getting off to an early 1-0 lead. Milovanov started her special night with a goal in the 27th minute. A quick throw-in, then cross by Isabelle Martin '23 ricocheted off a Wolves' defender before finding Milovanov in the box who ripped a shot past Kristen Roessler. The Cardinals outshot the Wolves 10-3 over the first 45 minutes of play.

Western Connecticut opened the second half with two shots to test Molly Brumbach '26, but she handled both to hold onto the 1-0 advantage. A few minutes later Wesleyan was able to add an insurance goal, this time with Milovanov setting her teammate up. She sent a soaring free kick into the box that found the foot of Audrey Lavey '23 for Wesleyan's 2nd goal.

Wesleyan added one more before the horn sounded in the 77th minute. Milovanov put an exclamation point on a solid showing with her second goal of the game. A cross was deflected off a Wolves' defender before ending up in front of Milovanov who capitalized for the Cards third goal of the game.

Milovanov had her first two-goal performance of her career. She also had a career-high five points in the contest. Brumbach had her first-career shutout, making five saves in the process.

Wesleyan will return to action Saturday October 22nd, where they will take on No.22 Bowdoin in a NESCAC showdown with a lot on the line. The two teams currently hold the 6th and 7th spot in the NESCAC rankings.
