NEW LONDON, CT - The Wesleyan women's ice hockey team fell 2-0 to Connecticut College on Friday night in their first game of the season. College secured the win on an empty netter with 53 seconds left in the third period. With this loss, Wesleyan's losing streak against the Camels has extended to eight games.

The first period was back and forth with both teams putting 10 shots on goal. Conn. College dominated the rest of the period, outshooting the Cardinals 19-5 despite committing four penalties. Conn. College almost went up 2-0 with 26 seconds left when a bouncing puck in front that Kelly Matthews attempted to stuff in crossed the goal line but was deemed no goal due to goaltender interference.

Wesleyan bounced back after their tough second period and put up 23 shots to the Camel's 5 in the third but it was to no avail as they were unable to crack the Camel goalie Abby Wieczorek who put up 25 saves on the night. Her counterpart Rei Halloran '23 also put up an impressive 22 saves. The Cardinals were unable to capitalize on their numerous power play chances in this game as they ended the night 0-for-6. The Camels put the game away when Melanie Conca 23' scored an empty net goal with 53 seconds left after intercepting a pass in Wesleyan's offensive zone.
