MIDDLETOWN, CT.- Wesleyan women's swimming & diving opened their 2022-23 season with a home tri-meet against a pair of nationally ranked teams in No. 14 Bates and No. 21 Wheaton at Webster Family Natatorium. Wesleyan had one first place finisher in
Zoe Paglia '23 who placed first in the three-meter dive. The Cardinals also had a handful of 2
nd and 3
rd place finishers in their respective events, however as a team they were defeated by both Bates (176-120) and Wheaton (187.5-111.5) and will start the season 0-2.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Zoe Paglia was spectacular in her events, earning the only first place finish for the Cardinals on the day taking first in the three-meter dive (217.50). Paglia also competed in the one-meter dive, taking 2nd place with a total score of 230.30, just 0.35 off from the first-place finisher
- Zoe Kuhn '26 was impressive in her Wesleyan debut, placing top three in two different events. Kuhn finished 2nd in the 200 free (1:56.15) while taking 3rd in the 100 free (54.50), and also competing on both relay teams that finished in the top three of their events
- Two more stellar debuts were put through by freshman Izzy Paez '26 and Sara Bohacek '26. Paez placed 2nd in the 200-yard free (2:10.07) finishing within 0.2 of the leader along with a 3rd place finish in the 100 yard fly (59.38). Bohacek finished top four in three events, taking 4th in the 200-yard breast (2:32.91) and 200 yard IM (2:17.94), while finishing 2nd in the 100 yard breast (1:07.73)
- Olivia Stevenson '25 took 2nd in the 1000 yard free, coming in with a time of 11:03.32. She also competed in the 500-yard free (5:27.49) coming in 4th and finished 5th in the 200 yard IM (2:18.86)
- Izzy Pennington '24 had a pair of 4th place finishes Saturday in the 200 yard back (2:13.64) and the 100 yard back (1:00.75)
- Wesleyan placed well in the relays as well, finishing 3rd in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:40.27 (Kuhn, Paez, Pennington, Sarah Schou '23). They also placed 2nd in the 200-yard medley relay clocking in at 1:49.73 (Pennington, Kuhn, Schou, Bohacek)
