Men’s Hockey Claims Fourth Straight Victory, Defeating Albertus Magnus 8-2

15 goals scored in last two games

MIDDLETOWN, CT.- The Wesleyan men's hockey team controlled the game from start to finish against Albertus Magnus Sunday at Spurrier-Snyder Rink, ultimately coming out with an 8-2 victory. Wesleyan scored eight goals, the most they have scored in a game since the 2018-19 season when the Cardinals dropped nine goals against Anna Maria in a non-conference battle. Wesleyan has now scored 15 goals in their last two games and have 20 total through their first four games. Wesleyan now starts the season 4-0, the best start for the Cards since 1972-73. Albertus Magnus drops to 7-3 with the non-conference loss.

Wesleyan got on the board early, scoring their first of eight goals just five minutes in. Jeremy Abraham '24 immediately made an impact in his first game back after missing Saturday's contest, scoring off a redirection of a Kyle Anderson '24 wrist shot to get Wesleyan on the board. The Cardinals added one more towards the end of the first period. Andrew Pratt '23 made a nice backhanded pass from the boards into the slot where Wiggle Kerbrat '23 was waiting for a one-timer past the Falcons' Logan Bateman. Wesleyan ended the first period with a power play opportunity, but the Albertus Magnus defense held them without a shot on goal.

The game started to get physical in the 2nd period, with six penalties being called and multiple power play chances for both teams. Wesleyan capitalized on their first power play chance of the period, scoring within the first minute of the penalty. Jake Lachance '23 fired a shot on goal that was redirected in by Go Uemura '23. Uemura has now scored in three of four games, scoring six total goals on the season. The Cardinals added another a minute later when Greg Peterson '24 intercepted a pass at the blue line that deflected right to Anderson who finished past Bateman. Albertus Magnus got in the scoring column with a Caden Patterson goal with six minutes left in the period, but the Cardinals responded two minutes later to extend their lead back to five. Uemura put through his 2nd goal of the game, converting a short-handed give and go with Kerbrat.

The third period only brought more physicality and goals. There were 12 penalties, two disqualifications, and three goals in the final 20 minutes, ultimately leading to the game being called a few seconds before the final buzzer being sounded. Wesleyan scored on one of their handful of power play chances in the 3rd, with Patrick Morrissey '26 setting up Liam Donelan '23 for the Cardinals 7th goal of the game. After a flurry of penalties in the middle part of the period that included an ejection, Wesleyan added their 8th and final goal of the game. After an interception in Albertus Magnus' zone, Lachance weaved through the Falcons defenders finishing past Joseph Giacobbo who came in to replace Bateman. The Falcons would sneak one more past Erik Voloshin '24 in the final minute of the game to get to the final score of 8-2.

There were 19 penalties including two ejections in the game. Wesleyan scored a season-high eight goals, and have 15 goals in their past two games. Uemura just had his 3rd two-goal game of the season, netting six goals in just four games. Daniel Lurie '26 scored the first goal of his Cardinals' career. Abraham and Donelan score their first goals of the season. Kerbrat, Lachance, and Anderson all add a goal and assist. Peterson and Owen Sweet '25 both add two assists. Colin Cobb '23 added to his now team-leading six assists. Shots on goal were even at 30 apiece.Voloshin makes 28 saves for the Cards.
