MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team got right into the swing of things with seven first place finishes at the Cardinals' season-opening meet on Friday night in Bacon Field House.
Kyle Roshankish '24 and
Emmett Perry '25 had a pair of victories to highlight the night for the Cardinals.
Roshankish started with a first place result in a competitive 200m field, besting Elijah Chong of New Haven by 0.1 seconds, clocking in at 23.66 seconds to win the event in a field of 12 competitors.
Patrick Schechtman-Taylor '26 had a solid showing in the same event, taking third place with 24.29 seconds in his first collegiate appearance.
The Cardinals' 4x400m relay took the win as Roshankish combined with Schechtman-Taylor,
Emmett Perry '25 and
Harry Kim '25 to finish first with a time of 3:39.51.
Perry completed his night with a first place showing in the 400m, easily topping a field of seven competitors with a time of 52.69 seconds that bested the runner-up Lucas Vasquez of Connecticut College by nearly two seconds.
In the 800m event,
Luke Consolati '25 topped the field with a time of 2:02.74 while
Alex Geula '25 was right behind in second place with a time of 2:03.21.
The one mile event featured several Cardinals as
Bruce Lenes '26 topped the field with a time of 4:32.80, beating Mohammed Abunar of New Haven by more than seven seconds. Another distance event was Wesleyan-heavy, with the Cardinals accounting for the top seven fastest times, headlined by
Liam Calhoun '26 who clocked in at 8:55.79.
Aidan Ward '23 placed second with a time of 8:56.64 while
Will Wise '26 was third at 8:58.52.
Javier Orellana '25 posted the best shot put in a field of seven, throwing 13.89m to take first place.
Will Dollhopf '25 had the top weight throw performance by a Cardinal, throwing 12.92m to take third place.
Wesleyan returns to action in mid-January with the Little Three Championship against Williams and Amherst on Saturday, January 14 from Bacon Field House.
