MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's squash team made quick work of Conn. College on Saturday afternoon in the NESCAC Tournament 9
th place match. The Cardinals (4-6) used six 3-0 sweeps to easily defeat the Camels (2-10) by a score of 8-1 for the third time this season.
Ethan Yan '25 got the action started by breezing past Alexander Lorenzo-Cruz, 11-2, 11-6, 11-4, in the #4 position as the first-year dropped just 12 total points in the sweep.
Kevin Angulo '24 also impressed in the #9 spot as he dropped only 11 total points in a 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 victory over Timothy First.
The four other 3-0 sweeps came from
Toby Goldston '24 at #4 (11-2, 11-6, 11-4),
Cole Zetterquist '24 at #6 (11-7, 11-4, 11-3),
Morgan Shatzman '25 at #7 (11-4, 13-11, 11-2) and
Andrew Doucette '22 at #8 (11-5, 11-9, 11-5).
Jack Lungstrum '25 managed to pull out a tightly-contested match at #5 as he came all the way back a 2-0 set margin, winning three straight (11-5, 13-11, 11-8) to defeat Thomas Whittemore.
In another entertaining match,
Abhinav Gupta '25 managed to pull out a second consecutive 3-2 win in the NESCAC Tournament as he also came back from two sets down, winning the final three sets (11-4, 11-7, 12-10) including a fifth set that went into extra points.
Shanay Sanghavi '23 nearly made it a 9-0 clean sweep win for Wesleyan but he was defeated in the fifth set at #2 by Tyler Maguire (6-11, 11-2, 11-9, 3-11, 6-11).
Wesleyan has one final tune-up match on Wednesday, February 9 against Brown (6:30 PM) at home before the National Team Tournament which is slated for Feb. 18-20 in Philadelphia.
