Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Goes Winless in Their Three Games Thursday

LEESBURG, FL- Softball goes winless in three games Tuesday, dropping games to Babson (13-0 5in), Wheaton (5-1), and Edgewood (4-0). Wesleyan had started the season out strong in Florida going 3-2 with two wins by over eight runs. The three wins to start the season already tripled their win total from 2021 where they went 1-14 in the shortened year. Wesleyan's three losses on the day drops their record to 3-5. Babson improves to 8-4, Wheaton to 3-4, and Edgewood to 6-7.

VS. BABSON (13-0 5IN LOSS)
  • Isabel Aguilar started the scoring early for the Beavers, with a two-run homerun in the 1st inning. Wesleyan probably had their best scoring chance in the bottom half of the 1st, leaving two on base
  • Babson would respond with five more runs over the next two innings to extend the lead to 6-0. They then would add four more in the 4th to go up by 10. Putting the finishing touches on the game with a three-run top of the 5th to win 13-0
  • Babson: 13 runs on 10 hits. Wesleyan 0 runs on two hits

VS. WHEATON (5-1 LOSS)
  • After going down quietly in the first inning, Wheaton went for three runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Erica Piercy doubled home the first run of the game, followed by a 2-run single by Lindsey Oliveira that gave the Lyons a 3-0 lead
  • Courtney Collins Pisano '22 hit a two-out triple in the 3rd, as the Cardinals threatened to score for the first time. However, Wesleyan could not capitalize on the opportunity
  • Wesleyan would get their only run of the game across in the 4th. Sophia Sciarappa '22 led off the inning with a single. She would later be driven in by a Krissy Gately '24 single to cut the Cardinals deficit to two
  • Wheaton took advantage of three Cardinals errors in the bottom of the 5th to add two insurance runs. The Lyons pitching would seal the deal in the final two innings to give them a 5-1 victory
  • Wesleyan outhit Wheaton five to three
  • Collins (2-for-3) and Gately (2-for-3, RBI) combined for Wesleyan's only RBI and four of their five hits

VS. EDGEWOOD (4-0 LOSS)
  • After a quiet first inning from both teams offensively, Wesleyan had a chance to score in the top half of the 2nd. Kendall Mancuso '22 singled, followed by another single by Gately to put runners on first and second with two outs. Eagles pitching was able to get the job done though, striking out Ava Pfannenbe '25 to end the Cardinals' threat
  • In the bottom half, it was Edgewood's turn to try to create something with two outs. After a strikeout and groundout to start the half inning, the Eagles hit two doubles driving in two runs to go up 2-0
  • The Eagles would strike again with two outs, hitting an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 4th to add an insurance run. They would add another in 5th to go up 4-0
  • Mancuso singled to left field to open up the 7th, but the leadoff single didn't go anywhere as Wesleyan would go down in order after that
  • Collins (2-for-4) and Mancuso (2-for-3) had two hits apiece. Wesleyan was outhit by Edgewood 8-6
