Women’s Tennis Breezes Past RPI, 8-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – So far so good for the Wesleyan women's tennis team down in Florida as the Cardinals dispatched RPI, 8-0, on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals (2-0) dominated the Engineers (5-5)across the board, posting six 6-0 set scores in singles play while rolling in #1 and #2 doubles while leading in #3 before play was stopped and the match was left unfinished.
 
Venia Yeung '22 and Katie Fleischman '23 combined for an 8-0 sweep in #2 doubles over Nitya Subramaniam and Krisia Flores. 2021 ITA Cup semifinalists Kristina Yu '22 and Sasha Gaeth '23 got right back to work in their first doubles match together since their incredible run in the fall season, posting an 8-2 win at #1 over Alex Mednikova and Rani Jones.
 
Caitlyn Ferrante '23 and Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 were leading in their #3 doubles match over Brooke Bauer and Sonya Khudyakov but the match was left unfinished and no team point was awarded.
 
In singles play, it was a thorough domination from Wesleyan as the Cardinals dropped three or fewer total games in five of the six matches while the remaining match saw Ferrante drop just five games in a win at #1. The domination started at #5 and #6 as both Serim Jin '23 and Caitlin Goldberg '23 posted 6-0, 6-0 victories in their respective matches.
 
Fleischman picked up her second win of the day, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 over Rani Jones. Kriti Williams '24 continues to impress on the young season with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at #4 over Brooke Bauer. Yu rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 win over Subramaniam at #3 while Ferrante still won handily at #1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alex Mednikova.
 
Wesleyan continues on their Spring Break Trip with a Wednesday night showdown against Carnegie Mellon at 6:30 PM. These two sides met in the Sweet 16 of the 2018 NCAA Tournament where Wesleyan came out on top in a 5-1 win.
