Softball Defeats the University of Saint Joseph, 8-3, in Final Non-Conference Game of the Season

WEST HARTFORD, CT- Wesleyan softball defeats the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) 8-3 Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals traveled to USJ to compete in their final non-conference game of the season, picking up their 3rd straight win. Wesleyan got out to a hot start, plating four first-inning runs to gain the early advantage. University of Saint Joseph came back with two runs in the 2nd, but the Cardinals responded with one run in each of the final four innings to get to their total of eight. Brooklin Williams '23 was stellar in the circle, picking up her 2nd win of the season. Wesleyan improves to 13-15 going into their final three games of the regular season. USJ falls back to .500 at 18-18, going into their final weekend of regular season games.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Wesleyan continues their theme of early-inning runs, scoring four in the first to gain an early advantage over the Blue Jays. Sophia Sciarappa '22 got the scoring started with a RBI-double down the left field line to drive in Hannah Docktor '24. Revi Brown '23 and Kendall Mancuso followed that up with RBI-singles for the final two runs of the inning
  • USJ came back with two runs of their own in the 2nd. They scored their runs on two hits, leaving a runner on base
  • The Cardinals added a run each in the 4th and 5th to extend the lead back to four. Docktor delivered a RBI-single in the 4th, while Mancuso doubled in Alexis Campbell '22 in the 5th. USJ had their chances, stranding two runners on in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th, only being able to scrape across one run across
  • Wesleyan added two more runs over the final two innings to get to the final score of 8-3. Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 blasted a solo home run over the right field fence in the 6th, followed by another Mancuso RBI-double in the 7th
 
NOTES:
  • Brooklin Williams (7 IP, 3 runs (2 ER), 6 K's) earned her 2nd complete game of the season
  • Isabella Secaira-Cotto (1-for-3, 1 RBI) hit her team-leading 3rd home run of the year
  • Kendall Mancuso (3-for-4, two 2B, 3 RBI) led the way for the Cardinals
  • Six Cardinals had multi-hit games
  • Wesleyan outhit USJ 15-7
