Men’s Squash Defeats Haverford, Stanford, and Denison to Sweep Weekend Round Robin

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's squash team went a perfect 3-for-3 in a home weekend round robin, as the Cardinals defeated Haverford (6-3), Stanford (9-0), and Denison (7-2) to improve to 5-5 on the season, having won their past five matches.
 
A dominating showing saw eight of the nine members of the Cardinal lineup finish with a winning record on the weekend. Ethan Yan '25 and Jack Lungstrum '25 both went 3-0 while Morgan Shatzma '25, Zach Idinopulos '26, and Preston Crawford '25 were 2-0.
 
Wesleyan 6, Haverford 3 | Results
 
The bottom of the Cardinal lineup set the home side up for success as Lungstrum, Shatzman, Idinopulos, and Crawford won their respective matches in 3-0 sweeps. Yan then finished off Kai Schinaman at #5 with a 3-1 (5-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-5) triumph to make it 5-0 and secure the Cardinal victory. Haverford took their first match at #2 before Shanay Sanghavi '23 completed a rally from two sets down to defeat Aaryaman Jaising at #3 (3-11, 8-11, 11-1, 11-9, 12-10).
 
Wesleyan 9, Stanford 0 | Results
 
The Cardinals made quick work of Stanford on Saturday morning, with the match taking less than 40 minutes of on-court time. Wesleyan claimed 3-0 sweeps in the #2 through #9 positions in the lineup, with the longest of those matches taking 25 minutes. Then Abhinav Gupta '25 completed the 9-0 sweep for Wesleyan with a 3-1 win (9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-9) over Ali Hindy at #1.
 
Wesleyan 7, Denison 2 | Results
 
In the last match of the weekend, Wesleyan was gifted wins at #7 through #9 as Denison had to forfeit all three of those matches. Needing wins on only two courts to secure the match victory, Yan put the Cardinals just one win away with a 3-0 sweep (11-3, 11-2, 11-2) at #5, his third such result on the weekend.
 
Denison managed to pull out a win at #1 and #3 to keep hope alive before Lungstrum completed the Cardinal win with a 3-0 sweep at #6 (11-4, 11-7, 11-5). With the match in-hand, the Cardinals added to their scoreline with a 3-1 win (11-3, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8) from Toby Goldston '24 at #4 and Sutherby held off a comeback bid from Tarun Mammen at #2 with a 3-2 victory (12-10, 12-10, 8-11, 9-11, 11-7).
 
Wesleyan are back in action on Saturday in an 11:00 AM home match against Fordham.
