MIDDLETOWN, CT. - The Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team competed in a tri-meet this Saturday, competing against Roger Williams and Springfield College. The Cardinals split, defeating Roger Williams by a score of 218 to 66 then falling short against Springfield College 163 to 135 in a close battle. The Cardinals had a plethora of solid performances, including six first place finishes.
Izzy Paez '26 and
Zoe Kuhn '26 combined for four of the six first place finishes. Kuhn started off the day by giving the Cardinals their first individual 1
st place performance of the night in the 200 yard free (1:58.38). She followed that up with another first place finish in the 500 yard free, finishing over three seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 5:16.12. Paez was equally as impressive with her two top finishes. The freshman opened with a win in the 200 yard fly (2:10.39) and finished with a win in the 100 yard fly (58.91) as the only competitor who finished in under one minute.
Izzy Pennington '24 was the other Cardinal who placed first in an individual event. Pennington took first place in the 100 yard back (58.73), while also finishing 2
nd in the 500 yard free (5:20.08).
Sara Bohacek '26 and
Sarah Schou '23 also had multiple top three finishes on the day. Bohacek managed to complete this feat in three events including the 100 yard breast (2
nd, 1:08.46), the 200 yard breast (3
rd, 2:31.35), and the 200 yard IM (2
nd, 2:14,78). Schou had two of her own, taking second place in the 100 yard free (54.86) and third in the 50 yard free (25.63).
Wesleyan had four more competitors take 2
nd place in their events.
Heddy Parker '23 touched the wall at 2:00.36 to take 2
nd place (only behind Kuhn) in the 200 yard free.
Elena Baird '26 was the runner up in the 200 yard fly (2:15.07), once again only behind another Cardinal in Paez.
Lydia Brutvan '25 came in second in the 200 yard back (2:13.87), just being edged out by Springfield's Emma Baumhauer (2:13.53).
Ola Szopa '24 held down the diving events, taking 2
nd in the 3 mtr dive (170.10) and 3
rd in the 1 mtr dive (159.60).
A trio of Cardinals closed out the day with third place finishes in
Danielle Eforo '25 in the 1000 yard free (11:27.11),
Nora Bootchk '26 in the 100 yard breast (1:08.93), and
Maya Milrod '24 in the 200 yard fly (2:17.76). Wesleyan placed well in the team relays as well, taking 1
st in the 400 yard medley relay at 4:01.52 and 2
nd in the 200 yard free relay (1:40.23).
Wesleyan will return to Webster Family Natatorium January 18
th to take on NESCAC opponent Trinity.
