Women’s Swimming & Diving Takes Down Trinity in a Home Dual Match

Wesleyan had 13 1st place finishes

MIDDLETOWN, CT.- The Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team took down Trinity Wednesday afternoon in a home dual meet. The Cardinals finished with 13 first place finishers, winning the match by a score of 200-97. With the win Wesleyan moves to 4-6 on the year and are winners of three of their last four. Trinity drops to 5-3 following the defeat at Webster Family Natatorium. Four Cardinals had multiple first place finishes Wednesday afternoon. Zoe Kuhn '26 was the first Cardinal to reach the mark, taking first place in two of her three events. Kuhn finished ahead of the pack in both the 200 yard free (1:57.94) and the 100 yard free (54.50), while taking 2nd place in the 50 yard free (25.41). Nora Bootchk '26 placed first in both of her individual events, starting with the 50 yard breast where she finished with a time of 31.54. She then competed in the 100 yard breast (1:08.87) where she just beat out Trinity's Marissa Lopez-Ona (1:08.89). Zane Paglia '23 continues her stellar start to the season on the diving board with two first place finishes in the 1 meter (235.27) and 3 meter dives (199.72). The final Cardinal to have multiple first place finishes was Izzy Pennington '24. Pennington finished in first in both the 50 yard back (27.53) and the 500 yard free (5:21.72).

The other individual event first place finishes came from the trio of Elena Baird '26, Izzy Paez '26, and Sarah Schou '23. Baird was stellar in the 1000 yard free, taking first place by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 11:10.16. Paez had a successful day herself with two top-two finishes on the day. The first-year swimmer managed to win the 50 yard free (25.20) while taking second place in the 100 yard free (54.85), only trailing her teammate Kuhn. Schou closed out the individual first place finishes for the Cards in the 50 yard fly, finishing at 27.40.

The Cardinals also had a handful of 2nd place finishes on the day. Lydia Brutvan '25 led the way in that department with runner-up placements in the 100 yard back (1:04.43) and the 400 yard IM (4:49.18). Some other Wesleyan swimmers with second place finishes were: Sara Bohacek '26 in the 200 yard free (1:59.74), Heddy Parker '23 in the 100 yard fly (1:01.85), and Annie Conway '26 in the 50 yard fly (28.20). The Wesleyan relay teams performed well also, taking first in both the 200 yard medley and the 200 yard free.

Wesleyan will enjoy a two-day break before getting back in the pool to take on Colby in a dual meet up in Maine on January 21st.
