WATERVILLE, ME. - The Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team was defeated by Colby Saturday afternoon in an away dual meet. The Cardinals finished with seven first place finishers, falling to Colby by a score of 160-136. With the loss Wesleyan moves to 4-7 on the year. Colby improves to 2-4 following the defeat at The Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center.
The Cardinals were led by the trio of
Zoe Kuhn '26,
Izzy Pennington '24, and
Izzy Paez '26 who all had multiple first-place finishes. Kuhn took first in both the 200 yard free (1:56.92) and the 500 yard free (5:17.44). Kuhn also had a 3
rd place finish in the 50 yard free with a time of 25.40. Pennington did in her work in both the backstroke events, claiming first in the 100 and 200 yard back. The junior swimmer finished the 100 with a time of 59.09 while she touched the wall at 2:09.20 to edge out 2
nd place in the 200 back. Paez took 1
st in the 200 yard fly with a time of 2:10.47, while also finishing in front in the 100 yard fly (58.92).
Elena Baird '26 had multiple top two finishes on the day in the 400 yard IM and 200 yard fly. Baird took first in the 400 yard IM at 4:48.62, while taking 2
nd in the 200 yard fly (2:14.04), just getting edged out by her teammate Paez. Wesleyan also had a handful of 2
nd place finishes on the day with
Danielle Eforo '25 in the 1000 yard free (11:20.85), Llaria Valentini '25 in the 100 yard fly (1:01.02), and
Sara Bohacek '26 in the 200 yard breast (2:28.42) and 100 yard breast (1:07.12).
Wesleyan will enjoy a week off from competition, coming back to the pool on January 28
th for Senior Day against Connecticut College.
