Women’s Swimming & Diving Defeats Conn. College, 159-136, on Senior Day

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Competing at home for the final time this season, the Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team defeated Connecticut College, 159-136, on Saturday from the Webster Family Natatorium. Wesleyan concludes the dual match season with a 5-7 record while the Camels drop to 3-4.
 
Wesleyan won nine events on the afternoon, including a pair of relays and two each in the freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly disciplines. Sara Bohacek '26, Izzy Paez '26, and Sarah Schou '23 were all involved in three total victories on the day. Those three Cardinals combined with Izzy Pennington '24 for a meet-opening victory in the 200 medley relay, as the top Wesleyan group eked out of win over Conn. College's top squad with a time of 1:50.23. The Camels were right behind with a 1:50.44.
 
Zoe Kuhn '26 landed a win in the 200 free, beating the runner-up by more than 1.5 seconds as she touched the wall in 1:57.45.
 
Bohacek then won her first of two breaststroke events, taking the top spot in the 100 with a time of 1:07.84. Nora Bootchk '26 was runner-up in the 100 breast, finishing with a time of 1:09.41.
 
Paez was dominant in the 200 fly, besting a small group of competitors with a time of 2:09.44, which was nearly five seconds faster than the second place finisher.
 
The 50 free was tight throughout, with four Cardinals following Vaughn Ammon who took first place in the event. Heddy Parker '23 was runner-up with a time of 25.19 seconds followed by Schou (25.25) and Kuhn (25.48).
 
Ola Szopa '24 won the 1-meter dive with a score of 166.65. Schou landed her second total victory on the day with a first place showing in the 100 free, as the senior clocked in at 54.55 seconds to beat her classmate Parker (55.01).
 
Bohacek was victorious once again, this time in the 200 breast as she dominated with a 2:30.07, besting the runner-up from Conn. by 2.62 seconds.
 
Paez made it 2-for-2 in the fly events, taking first place with a time of 58.07 seconds.
 
In the final event of the day, Wesleyan won another relay as the Cardinals took first place in the 200 free relay, winning by nearly three full seconds was a group of Schou, Pennington, Kuhn, and Parker.
 
Wesleyan will head to Boston next week for the Boston University Winter Open scheduled on February 3-4.
