MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. – The Wesleyan Invitational proved to be an unconventional weekend that was dictated by poor weather, as the Wesleyan women's golf team finished fifth out of a field of nine in the home opener. The team was led by
Kayla Howell '26 for the third straight weekend, as the sophomore placed seventh on the player leaderboard.
RESULTS
The weekend forecast of non-stop rain beginning Friday evening almost forced a cancelation of Saturday's opening round as holes 10-18 of the Lyman Orchards Jones Course were deemed unplayable. Instead, the teams played the front nine holes twice after a delayed start. Sunday's sun and wind did little to dry out the back nine, but the teams played 1-9 again to finish out the weekend.
Howell finished the first day with an 80 (+8) to lead the team before finishing up Sunday afternoon's shortened round with a 39 (+3). Howell's final weekend score of 119 (+11) made her the only Cardinal in the Top 10.
Mia Holbrook '27 placed in the Top 20 in a three-way tie for 16
th with a final score of 124 (+16). Holbrook's first day was an 84 (+12) before finishing Sunday's round 40 (+4).
Finishing third on the team was
Mia Bardinelli '26 as she placed 27
th in another three-way tie. Going 86 and 42 with a +20 on the weekend and a final 86-84-128.
Jacqueline Neishabouri '25 was fourth on the team (89-40-129) and
Milan Yorke '25 rounded out the team's top five (87-45-132).
The Cardinals return to the green Saturday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 8, in the NESCAC qualifiers, hosted by Bates College at the Martindale Country Club.
