No. 14 Volleyball Cruises Past Salve Regina, Earning 3-0 Road Sweep

NEWPORT, R.I. – The No. 14 ranked Wesleyan volleyball team made it look easy on Friday night, as the Cardinals handled Salve Regina in a 3-0 road sweep (25-14, 25-12, 25-19) that lasted just over an hour. Wesleyan has won five straight and are 16-1 for the second straight season. The Seahawks (10-12) have lost six straight matches.

Every active player saw the floor on Friday for the Cardinals, with Sophia Lindus '26 leading the way with eight kills and no errors on 23 attempts (.348 attack percentage) to go along with two blocks and seven digs. Bella Ahearn '23 went 5-for-8 on her attacks with no errors, hitting .625 with two blocks. Kate Long '24 (four kills) and Kathryn Morton '24 (three kills) both hit .300 for the match.

Bianca Ortiz '24 had an impressive all-around stat sheet with 16 digs, three service aces, two assists and one kill from the libero spot. Elliana Moreno '27 recorded six digs while Kiana Yuhl '25 had five.

Wesleyan jumped out with a 25-14 first set win, utilizing a 6-0 run off Ortiz's serve to set the tone. Salve hung in until the Cardinals ripped off a streak of eight unanswered points, all off Landa's serve, to make it 24-10 and put the set away. Lindus started that 8-0 run with a kill and added consecutive solo blocks as the Seahawks committed five straight attack errors in the scoring run.

The second set was even more convincing as Wesleyan won 25-12. A pair of 4-0 runs, sandwiched between a Salve point, made for a set-clinching 8-0 late run. Fiona LaCamera '27 came up with consecutive solo blocks in the Cardinal scoring run.

Salve found some footing in the third set, but not before Wesleyan built a 6-1 lead in the early stages. The Seahawks then found their offense, going on a 7-0 run to take an 8-6 lead. It was 10-8 Salve before three unanswered Cardinal points saw Wesleyan jump back out in front. Two more 3-0 runs created some separation before the match was clinched in a 25-19 set victory.

Wesleyan closes out the weekend at Emerson on Saturday for a 2 PM start. The two sides already met once this season back on September 9 at Johnson & Wales. Wesleyan had to fight in that one, landing a thrilling five-set win (25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-13).
