MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan men's soccer team fell 3-0 in NESCAC action to Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon from Citrin Field.
The team celebrated Senior Day, recognizing
Evan O'Brien and
Dane Harmaty for their contributions to the program. As sophomores, the duo helped lead a 10 win campaign in 2021. In 3,600 playing minutes, O'Brien has recorded eight goals, four of which are game-winners. Harmaty led that 10-win team with four goals and three assists and has a career seven goals and six assists.
The Polar Bears (9-1-4 overall, 5-1-3 NESCAC) got on the board first, posting their first goal of the afternoon late in the first half. Tyler Huck earns the tally unassisted, but
Lucas Ruehlemann '25 and
Dylan Clack '27 both had opportunities to tie the game up. Heading into the half down 1-0, the Cardinals (5-5-4 overall, 2-3-4 NESCAC) still outshot the Polar Bears 7-3.
Nine minutes into play of the second half,
Kyle Burbage '25 landed a heavy shot on goal in what was the Cardinals best scoring opportunity to that point from the top of the box. The Polar Bears responded in kind just three minutes later, gaining the 2-0 advantage after Jack Banks found the back of the net after a corner kick. Matthew Braver scored the final goal for the Polar Bears unassisted.
Niall Fergus '27 and
Will Geballe '26 gave the Cardinals two extra chances late in the second.
Josh Nadison '26, in his fourth start of the season, made one save in goal for the Cardinals. Alex Ainsworth made five for the Polar Bears.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in their final regular season game against Connecticut College in a 3 p.m. NESCAC matchup at Jackson Field.
