MIDDLETOWN, CT. – It was a penalty kick that cut the score late in the first half, but the Wesleyan men's soccer team got a much-appreciated assist from No. 7 Connecticut College with an own goal to tie the game up in a final 2-2 draw in NESCAC action on Tuesday afternoon, the final regular season game from Jackson Field.
The Cardinals (5-5-5 overall, 2-3-5 NESCAC) enter the NESCAC Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 seed Amherst College on the road, on Saturday, Oct. 28, in the quarterfinals. Kickoff at 12 p.m.
Not even two minutes into game play the Camels (10-0-5 overall, 5-0-5 NESCAC) got one over on the Cardinals, Matt Scoffone finding the back of the net. The Camels, currently second in the NESCAC, controlled the narrative for the first half with an 8-3 shot differential and landed a second goal at 28:16 in the first. Scoffone, again, managed to find open space through the crowd in front of Cardinals goalkeeper
Josh Nadison '26.
With less than 60 seconds remaining in the first 45 minutes,
Zack Burd '25 got the go ahead on a yellow card penalty kick and cut the Camels' 2-0 lead in half to send both teams into the half now 2-1.
A rush down the field by the Cardinals brought the ball just inside the top right of the Camels' box with
Lucas Ruehlemann '25 on the hunt, but a failed clear by the Camels sent the ball into their own goal to give the Cardinals the tying goal at 54:29.
The Cardinals got another worthwhile scoring opportunity with just a minute in regulation as
Evan O'Brien '24 headed a shot attempt off a corner kick, but Peter Silvester ultimately got the save.
Nadison made six saves in goal on eight shots on goal. Silvester made three saves on four shots on goal for the Camels.
