MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team broke a two-game scoring drought as a trio of
Lina Rodriguez '24,
Stefanie Stoj '26, and
Riley Buehler '26 led the offensive effort and push past Gordon with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday afternoon from Jackson Field.
262 minutes after the Cardinals' (5-2-2 overall, 2-1-2 NESCAC) last goal in a 1-1 draw with Trinity, Rodriguez ended the drought with her first goal of the season and opened the scoring over the Scots less than five minutes into play. Down deep in the Scots' (5-4-1 overall) zone,
Audrey Lavey '23 caught an initial pass low in front of the goal for a blocked shot before Rodriguez snagged the rebound and buried the ball in the back of the net. The Cardinals outshot the Scots 9-4 as the defenses held each scoreless for the remainder of the half.
The Cardinals struck again at 54:20 as Stoj got the better of Gordon's Grace Forsey in a battle for possession inside the box, drawing out goalkeeper Emily Bengtson. Stoj's shot bounced off Bengtson's foot and into the left ninety to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. Buehler's goal came at 57:34 on an awarded penalty kick.
Lula Wamberg led the Scots with one goal at 85:23.
Goalkeeper
Molly Brumbach '26 made five saves in goal for the Cardinals before she was relieved by
Alex Naidrich '27. Brumbach ranks first in the NESCAC in saves per game, averaging 5.50 per game. Bengtson totaled 12 saves for the Scots.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, in a NESCAC double-header at home against Amherst College beginning at 12 p.m. at Jackson Field. The men will follow at 2:30 p.m.
