MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Despite a herculean defensive showing, the Wesleyan women's soccer team fell 1-0 in NESCAC action to No. 11 Amherst College in a misty and overcast Saturday afternoon match at Citrin Field.

Tori Rideau-Winds '26 played 120-yards and back again. The sophomore defender led the Cardinals (5-3-2 overall, 2-2-2 NESCAC) defense for all 90 minutes of play, stripping the Mammoths (8-2-1 overall, 5-2-1 NESCAC) of the ball at every opportunity out front to support the next possession down the field. Caty Clements '25 and Serena Sink '24, also clocking 90 minutes on the field, worked as pillars in front of goalkeeper Molly Brumbach '26. Outshot 8-3 in the first, the team held the Mammoths scoreless through the first half.

At 50:37 in the second half Abby Schwartz struck for the Mammoths as Brumbach was making her way back into the goal box after a previous save out at the top, the ball rolling off as she dove for the stop.

The Cardinals best scoring opportunity of the match was minutes before the Mammoths' goal as Maddy Reynolds '25, Waverly Meyers '26, and Lina Rodriguez '24 kept the ball down low outside the goal, all recording shots before the Cardinals were awarded a corner kick.

Meyers, Reynolds, and Riley Buehler '26 propelled the offense with two shots tallied each.

Brumbach made seven saves on nine shots on goal for the Cardinals. Mika Fischer and Katya Besch combined for four saves for the Mammoths.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Oct. 8, when they head to Bates College for a 12 p.m. NESCAC matchup.
