BEVERLY, MA. – The Wesleyan men's ice hockey team was shutout in non-conference action in a 4-0 loss to Endicott College on Tuesday night from Endicott's Raymond J. Bourque Arena. Led by
Jack Bosco '26 with three shots on goal, Wesleyan won 25 from the face-off circle as
DJ Dixon '24 was good for 11 wins off the draw.
Striking two power plays to open the action, the Cardinals had the man advantage in back-to-back opportunities but were unable to produce a goal. Despite being a man down early in the first period on two occasions, the Gulls controlled the play when both teams were at even strength. While it looked like both teams would be held scoreless through the first 20 minutes, with 27 seconds remaining in the first period the Gulls opened the scoring thanks to Ryan Gaulin tapping the puck in from the left post.
The Gulls tallied a second goal less than two minutes into the second period as Primo Self tucked the puck in under
Erik Voloshin's '24 blocker. The Gulls continued to control the pace of the game as the Cardinals were forced to kill a penalty on
Jack Kane, their first of the game. Unable to settle the puck on the attack, the Gulls scored on the power play for their third of the night with eight minutes left on a redirect by Jackson Sterett. The Cardinals finally started to gain momentum in the final five minutes, Dixon getting the first major scoring chance for the Cardinals getting a shot off and his own rebound. A flurry of shots from the Cardinals almost resulted with a puck in the back of the net but Gulls goaltender Ryan Wilson came up with saves on all redirected pucks.
Patrick Morrissey nearly had the Cardinals on the board early in the third period as he landed a heavy shot on Wilson, gaining the puck from Dixon before Dixon had his own attempt on goal. Making a huge save on Jimmy McIsaac, Voloshin killed the Gulls' momentum momentarily as he made the glove save perched at out on top of the crease.
Danny Judge '26 sailed a puck off the post with less than five minutes remaining in regulation and snagged his own rebound, but Wilson again had the Cardinals under control in the defensive zone. After Self scored his second of the night to give the Gulls the 4-0 final score, the Gulls managed a two-on-one setup coming down the ice, but Voloshin put the stop to the pair with a minute remaining.
The Gulls outshot the Cardinals 43-22, Voloshin made 39 saves in net for the Cardinals. Wilson finished with 22 for the Gulls. On the man advantage the Cardinals were 0-3.
The Cardinals return home for the home opener on Saturday, Nov. 20, when they host Curry College at Spurrier-Snyder Rink with puck drop at 3 p.m.
