MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Freshman goaltender
Jenna Guglielmi had a stunning debut outing for the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team as she led Wesleyan to a 3-0 shutout of Worcester State University, earning her first victory and shutout on Sunday evening from Spurrier-Snyder Arena.
Gugliemi made 11 saves total in goal as the Cardinals (3-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 NESCAC) outshot the Lancers (4-5-1 overall) 39-11 at the other end of the ice, the offense putting a trio of unanswered goals down. Winning 10 draws off the face-off,
Amelia Molin '27 kept the Cardinals in possession of the puck for most of the 60 minutes of regulation time.
Jenna Rekoske '24 was good for eight wins and
Caroline Kee '26 finished with six draw wins. Rekoske, Kee, and Molin tallied all three goals.
Rekoske opened the scoring for the Cardinals with less than a minute remaining in the first period off the face-off. Rekoske won the draw and sent the puck back to the corner wall for
Dylan Green '26 who made a back-handed pass back to Rekoske as she was making her way back across the crease and batted the puck in at the left post.
Aimée Seppenwolde '26 set up Kee's goal while the Cardinals had the man advantage on the power play, sending two shots on Lancers goaltender Kelsey Czerniawski. Kee gained possession on Seppenwolde's second rebound and regrouped with the puck around the outside of the right circle before firing the puck directly out in front of the crease for her first power play goal of the season.
The Cardinals scored the final goal of the evening at 18:07 of the second period with
Joyce Sun '24 kickstarting the play with a dumped puck back in behind the net. The Lancers reached the puck first and sent it to the left wall where Olivia Rubenstein '27 was able to corral the puck back to Molin at the left face-off circle and lifted the puck over Czerniawski's blocker.
Seppenwolde led the Cardinals in total shots on goal with five. The Cardinals penalty-kill unit shutdown all five penalties handed down to the team over a total of eight minutes.
Czerniawski made 36 saves in goal for the Lancers.
The Cardinals return to action one more time before the holiday break when they travel to UNE on Saturday, Dec. 9, for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
