MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's squash team snapped a three-match losing streak, defeating Connecticut College by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday night from the Rosenbaum Squash Center. The Cardinals (3-4) head into winter break with a win following three losses on the road last weekend.
Wesleyan benefitted from squad depth in this clash against the Camels, as Conn. won the top three matches in the lineup, but the Cardinals managed wins in the #4 through #9 positions to claim the 6-3 win.
Preston Crawford '25 held off a spirited comeback from Ryan Mach at #4, with the Cardinal junior pulling out a 11-6, 11-5, 2-11, 9-11, 11-8 victory in a match that lasted nearly 45 minutes.
Jack Lungstrum '25 won his match at #5 over Noah Fish in four sets, with the fourth being decided in extra points (11-5, 6-11, 11-3, 13-11).
Cole Zetterquist '24 also came through in four sets, toppling Peter Russell 11-4, 5-11, 11-5, 11-5 at #7.
Morgan Shatzman '25, Zach Idinopulos '26, and
Sumer Singh Ahluwalia '27 all came through with dominating sweeps in their respective matches, with all three needing less than 15 minutes to claim wins.
The Camels landed all three of their points with victories at #1, #2, and #3, with both wins at #1 and #3 coming by-way of three-set sweeps.
Wesleyan enjoys a month off between matches as the Cardinals resume play on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Bowdoin.
