Shane Regan’s Career Game Leads Men’s Basketball Past Bridgewater State, 98-65

Cardinals shoot 50 percent from the floor, hit 10 three-pointers in the 33-point home win

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.Shane Regan '25 did a lot of everything for the Wesleyan men's basketball team in a 98-65 victory over Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon from Silloway Gymnasium. The Cardinals (7-2) head into the start of winter break having won two straight and three of their past four games. The Bears (3-6) have lost five of their past six contests.
 
Featuring heavily in the win was Regan who torched the Bears for a career-high 28 points on 9-of-11 shooting while he went 5-of-6 from three-point range, hitting each of his first five attempts from long range. He added a career-high eight assists against just one turnover to go along with five steals, which is just one off his career-high established last week against Worcester State.
 
The junior guard caught fire in the first half, hitting from deep to get the scoring started for the Cardinals who saw Bridgewater State take an early 7-3 lead. After going down four though, Wesleyan surged out in front with an 18-2 run to catapult into a 12-point lead with more than 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
 
Regan canned threes on consecutive possessions to make it 27-13 Cardinals and just over a minute later, hit again from long range as it was 32-13 Wesleyan with 10:06 left in the half. Both sides slowed down for the remainder of the half, with the Cardinals heading in with a 47-27 lead at the halftime break.
 
Wesleyan continued to lean on transition baskets as the second half got underway, with the two sides trading blows before a 10-0 Cardinal run pushed the Cardinals to a 75-41 lead with 11:27 remaining. Regan and Sam Pohlman '26 scored or assisted on all 10 points scored in the run that pushed Wesleyan out in front by 30+ points for the first time in the contest.
 
Alex Justh '26 and Michael Astorino '26 both hit three-pointers in the closing minutes, while Jacob Pofsky '25 scored for the second straight game. Astorino's made three-pointer was the first points of his collegiate career. The three from Justh put Wesleyan up 95-56, their largest lead of the game, before ultimately closing out the 33-point win.
 
Twelve different Cardinals scored in the game, with Regan, Jared Langs '25 (16 points, five rebounds), and Pohlman (10 points, five assists) all reaching double figures. Jackson Cormier '26 grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with six points. Josh Cameron '27 totaled five points, nine rebounds, and three assists while Ben Lyttle '27 finished with seven points, three reobunds, and two assists off the bench. Nicky Johnson '25 tallied eight points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
 
Wesleyan outscored Bridgewater State 52-22 in points in the paint and 43-12 in fast break points. The Cardinals finished +14 in rebounds (49-35) and dished out 30 assists on 39 made field goals against just 11 turnovers.
 
The Cardinals enjoy a 20-day break between games as Wesleyan is back in action on Friday, December 29 with a trip to Eastern Connecticut State for a regular season tournament where they'll open against Saint Joseph's (Maine) at 5 PM.
