MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – In what was the final dual meet of the season, the Wesleyan wrestling team was dealt a 26-10 loss at the hands of Centenary on Saturday afternoon from Bacon Field House. The Cardinals compete the dual season with a 7-10 record while the Cyclones move to 7-2.
After honoring the Cardinals' six senior class members prior to the start of the competition, Centenary got off to a fast start, earning four straight wins to open up a 16-0 lead. Two of those opening four bouts came down to decisions while the Cyclones also recorded a major decision at 125 and pin at 141.
 
Wesleyan started to make up some ground at 157 with 
Aaron Goldman '23 earning a 5-3 win in sudden victory to kick start the comeback bid. 
Jack Reusing '25 followed the dramatic Goldman win with a 5-0 decision victory of his own at 165 while 
Marco Gaita '23 coasted to a 15-2 major decision victory over Angela Piazza at 174.
 
Now trailing 16-10, the Cardinals were within striking range and a thrilling match between Justin Hopman and 
Aris Dashiell '25 came down to the closing seconds with Hopman escaping a Dashiell takedown to record a 3-2 victory.
 
Centenary went on to win the remaining two bouts to earn the 26-10 victory with a major decision win coming at 197 and 
Kolton Gagnon '25 losing a tight 3-2 decision to Dalton Deevey at 285.
 
Wesleyan shifts back to tournaments to close out the 2022-23 season, with the NEWA Futures Tournament slated for Sunday, February 19 at 11 AM in Springfield, Mass.
