Women’s Hockey Downed by Trinity on Senior Day, 3-1

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan women's hockey team was defeated by interstate rival Trinity on Senior Day by a score of 3-1. After a scoreless first period of action, the Bantams scored three unanswered goals over the course of the 2nd and early 3rd period to take a commanding lead heading into the middle parts of the final period. Wesleyan wouldn't go out quietly, applying pressure throughout the final period that resulted in a goal by Caroline Mezias '25 to cut the deficit to two. That's where it would stay for the remainder of the game. Wesleyan drops to 9-13-1 (3-12 NESCAC), currently holding the 8th and final spot in the NESCAC Tournament seedings heading into the final game of the season. Trinity improves to 11-10-1 (5-9-1 NESCAC) moving up to 6th in the NESCAC rankings.

The Cardinals tested out the Bantams goalie over the first few minutes of the first period, but Hannah LeClair was up to the task and kept the game scoreless in the early going. Wesleyan had a four-on-three chance midway through the period thanks to a pair of tripping penalties on the Bantams. They produced two shots on goal over that span, but could not capitalize with a goal. Dylan Green '26 had a shot in the final 30 seconds that sounded as though it hit the post from a very difficult angle nearly parallel with the net, and the game went into the second period tied at zero.

After a quiet first four minutes of play, the Bantams earned a power play chance. They took advantage of the opportunity right away, scoring the game's first goal at the 6:21 mark of the second period. Trinity worked the puck around to Jelani Adorno who one timed a slapshot past Rei Halloran's '23 glove side to give her team a 1-0 lead. Both teams' offenses went quiet over the next eight minutes of play with very few shots on goal before the Bantams struck again at the 14:27 mark. This time it was an even-strength goal, with Emma Robertson following a rebound off a teammates shot and Trinity had a late second period 2-0 lead.

Trinity once again got off to a quick start to start the final period of play, this time scoring just two and a half minutes in. Adrono came through with her second goal of the contest, this time coming on a power play chance and the Bantams now had a comfortable 3-0 advantage early in the 3rd period. Wesleyan's offense then showed signs of life again reeling off a few shots before finally sneaking one past LeClair. Aimee Seppenwolde '26 delivered a beautiful long breakout pass along the boards that found Green and created a two-on-one chance for the Cards. Green dished off to Mezias who was able to sneak one through five-hole and Wesleyan was on the board. The Cardinals managed a handful of shots on a late power play and after pulling their goalie, but couldn't break through with another score.

Wesleyan outshot the Bantams 26-24. Halloran made 21 saves to LeClaire's 25. Mezias is now tied for the team-lead with her 3rd goal of the season. Seppenwolde adds her first assist of her career, Green adds her second. Adrono scored two goals for the Bantams.

Wesleyan will conclude the regular season tomorrow, February 18th where they will travel to play Trinity in Hartford, Connecticut.
