ROANOKE, Va. –
Marco Gaita '23 of the Wesleyan wrestling team competed at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday in the 174 lb weight bracket. The senior won his first career bout at the NCAA Championships but was defeated twice and sees his tremendous career come to an end.
Making his third career appearance at the NCAA Championships, Gaita started against the second-seed Zane Mulder of Wartburg in the opening round and was pinned in 4:25. Moving onto the back draw of the bracket, Gaita was up against Jacob Sherzer of Cornell College and the Cardinal standout landed a 7-6 victory, winning his first career bout at the NCAA Championships. His run, however, came to an end in a loss by pinfall to Anson Dewar of Muhlenberg.

Gaita finishes his career as a three-time NCAA Championship participant while he amassed 102 career wins wrestling at 174.
