Box Score MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The no. 4 Wesleyan women's tennis team continued their early-season dominance Saturday, defeating another NESCAC opponent in Trinity, 9-0. This was the Cardinals final match before they leave for their spring break trip in Florida that will take place from March 13
th-16
th. They will match up with four different teams, including Quinnipiac on the 14
th. With this win over the Bantams the Cardinals move to 4-0 (4-0 NESCAC) to start the season, all against conference competition. Trinity falls to 1-2 (0-2 NESCAC).
Wesleyan completes their 2
nd consecutive "sweep" of NESCAC competition. First beating Conn College 9-0 last Sunday, before dominating Trinity 9-0 today. The Cardinals continue to flex their muscles in singles play, winning each match in two sets with a handful of 6-0 sets. In doubles in was similar dominance, taking each of the three games, 8-2, 8-2, 8-4.
In doubles, the Cardinals set the tone with three straight victories. It began with the combination of
Leila Epstein '26 and
Caitlyn Ferrante '23, who were able to take down Trinity's Angelina Shyltsyna and Allie Francis 8-2 to get the Cards on the board. Another 8-2 victory came from the duo of
Sarah Youngberg '26 and
Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 who were able to defeat Kennedy White and Ella Baker. The most competitive doubles match of the day finished last, with
Kristina Yu '22 and
Sasha Gaeth '23 holding off the Bantams Isabella Hartman and Josephine Kimball, 8-4.
In singles it was more of the same for the nationally ranked Cardinals, taking all six of the matches to close out the day. Yu started it off for Wesleyan at #4, claiming their fourth victory of the early afternoon, 6-2, 6-0 over Baker. Next came another impressive performance, this time from Youngberg at #5 who only dropped one game in two sets, 6-0, 6-1 to Francis. Mohsen-Breen completed her dominating day on the court with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Madison Bolig at #6.
Nika Vesely '25 was able to come away with a win over her opponent Hartman, 6-1, 6-1 at #1 while Epstein bested Kimball 6-1, 6-1 at #2. The most competitive set of the entire day might have come at #3 with Ferrante taking the first set 6-4 over Shyltsyna before taking control 6-0 in what became the final set.
Wesleyan will look to build off yet another impressive victory during their spring break trip to Florida. They will compete from the 13
th to the 16
th with their first match coming against Southwestern.
