MEDFORD, Mass. – The Wesleyan track & field team participated in the Tufts National Qualifying Meet on Saturday, as the Cardinals looked to move up the performance list in some key events leading up to the NCAA Championships next weekend.
Needing a great performance to move into position to qualify for nationals, the Cardinals did just that, crossing the line in a school record time in the distance medley relay at 11:54.68.
Jordan Walter '25 ran the 1200m leg,
Kenzie Kelly '25 the 400m,
Grace Devanny '23 800m, and
Maeve Hoffman '23 in the 1600m. This group shattered the previous program record time of 11:58.42 set back in 2019 and puts the Cardinals in position for a chance at a qualifying spot at NCAA's. The record time was good enough for third place out of 10 teams at the meet.
Turning in an incredible effort in the 60m dash was
Augusta Burhans '23 and
Gabby Harris '23 as the Cardinal senior duo finished second and third in the event. Burhans set a personal-best time twice on the day, clocking at 7.85 seconds in preliminaries before posting a time of 7.82 seconds in the final to finish as the runner-up. Harris was third-fastest in both preliminaries (7.91) and the final (7.92).
Also competing on the women's side in individual events was Hoffman in the 800m, as she placed ninth out of 13 with a time of 2:20.98.
Miranda Graves '23 competed in the 5000m, clocking in at 18:37.61.
Erika Kluge '23 also posted a mark of 3.21m in the pole vault.
A pair of men's track & field freshmen also competed on the day, with
Liam Calhoun '26 taking fourth place out of 16 competitors in the one mile, finishing with a time of 4:14.85.
Will Wise '26 also competed in the one mile, clocking in at 4:26.55.
Devanny is set to appear in the NCAA Championships in both the 200m and 400m, heading in as the #1 seed in the 400m and #2 seed in the 200m. The DMR squad awaits news on Sunday if they earned a qualifying spot.
