The 20 goals is a new team record for the highest single-game goal total against a NESCAC opponent

HARTFORD, Conn. – Leading by just two at the start of the fourth quarter, the No. 7 ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team scored five unanswered to run away from No. 13 Trinity in a 20-13 victory on Wednesday night from Sheppard Field. This marks the sixth straight win for Wesleyan (9-2, 5-2 NESCAC) over the Bantams (9-3, 4-3 NESCAC) who see their four-game win streak snapped.

An incredible offensive display saw the two sides combine for 14 goals in the second quarter alone, including nine from the Cardinals who took a 13-9 lead into halftime. Most of the damage was done in the final six minutes as the Bantams led 6-5 before Lai scored with 5:54 left in the frame to tie the score at 6 apiece. Then the floodgates opened, with five more unanswered Wesleyan goals following in a span of 4:12. Chessy Greenwald '23 scored twice and assisted on another in the 6-0 Cardinal run as the Bantams had just one possession in that extended Wesleyan scoring run.

Following a nine-goal third quarter, Trinity found some answered and held the Cardinals scoreless for the final 13:29 of the third quarter, while the Bantams managed three unanswered goals to lower the deficit to 14-12 heading into the fourth.

In the face of a hard-charging Trinity side, the Cardinals finished with gusto, outshooting the Bantams 11-2 and outscoring Trinity 6-1 in the fourth quarter to run away with a convincing final scoreline. Gil Horst '23 scored consecutive goals to build a four-goal Cardinal lead before Greer completed her hat trick to make it 17-12 with 10:13 remaining.
