NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team took part in the two-day Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College on Friday and Saturday. The Cardinals totaled 20 points and finished in 15
th place out of 20 teams in the competition.
Leading the way was the 1500m group, as four Cardinals placed within the Top 17 in the event.
Liam Calhoun '26 landed the top spot on the team, landing in fourth place overall at 3:57.70.
Alex Kermath '26 was 11
th-best at 4:01.49 while
Nate Fogarty '25 (15
th; 4:02.40) and
Bruce Lenes '26 (4:03.47) also showed well.
Owen Rogers '24 was the top individual finisher on the day for Wesleyan, as the junior placed 3
rd overall in the 5000m, crossing the line in a personal-best time of 14:52.48.
Will Wise '26 finished in 13
th place in the same event with a time of 15:27.97.
Javier Orellana '25 was another Top 5 finisher for the Cardinals as the sophomore threw 13.28m in the shot put to take fifth place out of 39.
Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 placed 10
th in the same event with a mark of 11.99m.
Sam Musto '24 landed a Top 10 finish, placing 10
th in the 400m with a time of 52.21 seconds.
Nigel Hayes '23 placed 13
th in the same event, finishing in 53.34 seconds.
Ben Taffet '26 and
Alex Geula '25 led the Cardinals in the 800m, as Taffet placed 21
st out of 85 runners with a time of 1:59.44 while Geula was right behind in 24
th at 1:59.94.
Tony Patrinos '24 ran the 3000m steeplechase for the first time in his career and picked up an eighth-place finish at 10:19.93.
Will Dollhopf '25 was the best on the team in the hammer throw, tossing a personal-best 39.61m to place 13
th out of 40. Hayes-Messinger threw 38.79m to place 15
th while
James Giokaris '24 posted a PR of 38.49m for 16
th place in the same event.
Giokaris was the top Cardinal performer in the javelin at 43.53m, good enough for 12
th place overall.
Next up for Wesleyan is the Trinity Invitational in Hartford on Saturday, April 22 at 10 AM.
