Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 18 Men’s Tennis Downed by No. 20 Colby, 6-3

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 18 ranked Wesleyan men's tennis team saw several close results go the way of No. 20 Colby which proved the difference on Sunday in a 6-3 win for the Mules. Wesleyan (6-6, 2-4 NESCAC) has dropped their last three matches while Colby (6-3, 3-0 NESCAC) rebounds after losing three straight prior to this win.

In a tight match throughout, all three doubles matches were decided by three games or less while singles saw five of the six matches go into a third set. Unfortunate were the Cardinals as three of the five singles matches that went into a third set were won by Colby.

The Mules came away with a 2-1 lead after doubles as wins came at #3 and #1 before the Cardinals salvaged one point at #2. Harry Collomb '26 and Chase Kasday '26 managed to hold off Sam Henry and James Bogdanovic 8-7 (7-3) in a deciding tiebreak.

Singles action was a long and steady battle as several went over two hours long. The only straight set win in singles play went to Ben Powis of Colby at #4 as the remaining five all needed three sets to determine a winner. Joey Barrett of Colby came back from one set down to defeat JT Bilski '26 at #1 6-4, 1-6, 4-6. Kasday rallied at #6, coming back from a first set tiebreak defeat to win the last two sets 6-3, 6-1 and give the Cardinals hope of a comeback.

However, the clinching point came at #5 as Sam Henry took down Max Lustgarten '25 5-7, 6-4, 5-7 in a match that nearly went three hours.

Ben Mitchell '24 managed to win his singles match at #2 over Jake Cohen 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 as the Cardinals ultimately fell 6-3.

Wesleyan looks to rebound at Bates on Saturday.
