Little Three Champs! No. 6 Women’s Lacrosse Handles No. 15 Williams in 15-7 Victory

Wesleyan earns their third straight Little 3 title and seventh overall in team history

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – For the third straight season and seventh time in program history, the Wesleyan women's lacrosse team are crowned Little Three Champions. The No. 6 ranked Cardinals took home the title behind a 7-0 first half run, eventually leading by as many as nine before completing a comprehensive 15-7 victory over No. 15 Williams on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Wesleyan (12-2, 7-2 NESCAC) goes 4-0 on their four-game road swing and secures a home playoff game in the NESCAC Quarterfinal round next Saturday. The Ephs (10-4, 5-4 NESCAC) have lost three straight games after winning 10 in-a-row.

The Cardinals fell behind early as Williams scored the first two goals of the game before Annabel Cincotta '25 – who started for the first time in her career – finished a feed from Kendall Mittleman '23 to get the Wesleyan on the board. Mittleman later fed Chessy Greenwald '23 to tie the score at 2-2 with 38 seconds left in the first.

Wesleyan was at their best in the second quarter, outscoring the Ephs 6-1 while committing just one turnover and winning 6-of-8 draws in the frame. Olivia Lai '23 and Kiara Tangney '25 both scored twice while Greenwald added another and Molly Greer '24 scored her first of two on the day as the Cardinals built an 8-3 halftime lead.

It was later 9-4 Cardinals midway through the third quarter before a 4-0 Wesleyan run put the game away. Mittleman, who finished with a career-high six assists, scored with 6:05 left in the third to start the run of four unanswered Cardinal goals. Sam DeLeo '25 put home a player-up goal less than three minutes later and Greenwald finished off her first hat trick of the season to make it 12-4 Wesleyan heading into the fourth.

Mittleman found Greer for another Cardinal goal to start the scoring in the fourth. As the clock wound under five minutes to play, Wesleyan held a commanding lead and saw goals from Lai and Lindsey Diomede '26 before the clock expired on a 15-7 victory.

Among the many standouts for the Cardinals included Mittleman who added one goal with her six assists to set a new season-high and match her career-high with seven points. Greenwald and Lai both scored three goals. This represented the first hat trick for Greenwald this season while it was the second of her career. For Lai, her first goal on the day put her at 100 for her career, as she became the sixth Cardinal in program history to reach that milestone. Lai also added a season-high five ground balls.

Bridget Horst '26 dominated on the draws as the freshman matched the single-game program record with 10. The only other Cardinal to post 10 draw controls in a game is Caroline Sgaglione '19 who first established the single-game program record against Connecticut College on April 25, 2018.

Kiara Tangney '25 was all over the field, scoring twice while setting a new career-high with five gorund balls, to go along with four caused turnovers and one draw control. This moves Tangney's goal scoring streak to seven straight games while she is second on the team in caused turnovers (25) and draw controls (29) this season.

Cincotta stepped up in a big way in her first career start, doubling her season point total with three points (two goals, one assist) including her first career multi-goal game. Greer scored twice to give her seven goals in the last four games.

On the defensive end, Erin Trotta '23 posted two caused turnovers and two ground balls as she continues to lead the team in both categories this season. Molly Simon '26 stepped up with two caused turnovers and one ground ball while Maeve Olson '25 added two ground balls and one caused turnover.

Abby Wolk '22 got the start in net and made three saves in 30 minutes, earning the win. Izzy Weintraub '26 came in for the second half and made two saves.

Wesleyan closes out the regular season at home against Conn. College on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 PM.
