Nika Vesely '25 saw her run in the NCAA Singles Championship end in a three-set defeat to second seed Angie Zhou of Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday morning from the USTA National Campus. Zhou came out strong in the opening set, controlling the action with a 6-2 win. Vesely, however, bounced back in the second set and sent the match into a third set with a 6-4 victory. In that decider, Zhou jumped out to a 3-0 lead and even though Vesely broke back once, she couldn't close the gap any further as the match ended in a 6-3 third set win for Zhou.
Vesely, the 2023 NESCAC Player of the Year, impressed in her first career appearance at the NCAA Singles Championship as she went 3-1 while being the first opponent Zhou has lost a set to at the Championship Tournament. Vesely finishes the 2022-23 season with an 18-2 record in singles play that included an 18-match win streak.
