SPRINGFIELD, MA. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team competed in the New England DIII Championships this weekend in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Cardinals had four individual athletes competing along with a team for the 4 x 800 meter relay. Wesleyan finished tied for 28
th out of the 36 teams competing.
The best result of the day came from the 4 x 800 meter relay team who finished 3
rd out of the 18 teams competing with a time of 7:57.29. The relay team was made up of
Jasper Shapiro '23,
Nate Fogarty '25,
Ben Taffet '26, and
Rob D'Aquila '26. The two teams that finished ahead of them were Plymouth State (7:52.81) and Bates (7:50.30).
A pair of first-year's shined in the New England Championships, with
Bruce Lenes '26 and
Alex Kermath '26 taking home top 25 finishes. Lenes competed in the 3000m steeplechase, placing 16
th out of the 22 competitors with a time of 10:17.32. Kermath's event was the 1500 meter where he came in 24
th with a time of 4:10.00.
Owen Rogers '24 joined Kermath in running the 1500 meter, finishing a few spots ahead of the first-year in 20
th. Rogers came in with a time of 4:00.24, just behind 19
th place (4:00.07). The final competitor of the day for the men's side was Fogarty. After claiming 3
rd as a member the 4 x 800 meter relay team, the sophomore took to the 800 meter sprint where he claimed 26
th out of 39 competitors coming in at 1:57.14.
Next up for the Cards is the Open New England Championships which will take place from May 11
th through May 13
th.
