SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – For the second straight game,
Lucas Ruehlemann '25 was the key to the Wesleyan men's soccer team's offense as he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Springfield College on Tuesday night from Brock-Affleck Field. The Cardinals remain undefeated as they sit 3-0-1 overall while the Pride fall back to 2-3-1 on the year.
As both defenses held each team scoreless throughout the first half, Ruehlemann notched the game winner at 52:30 in the second half. A throw in from the far side of the field hit a few bodies in front of goal, eventually falling to Ruehlemann from just inside the box as the junior landed clear contact with his shot attempt, finding the back of the net.
Wesleyan put on a masterful defensive display to hold the lead and secure the win, limiting Springfield to just one shot and one corner over the final 37+ minutes of play. For the match, the Cardinals sported a 11-2 advantage over the Pride in shots.
Goalkeeper
Mathis Blanc '26 made two saves in 90 minutes, recording his third shutout of the season in four starts. The Cardinal defense has allowed only one goal in four games (360 minutes) of action. Noah Pote totaled three saves for the Pride.
The Cardinals return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 23, when they host Trinity College in NESCAC action at 2 p.m.
