MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Wesleyan men's soccer team came-from-behind to take a 2-1 lead over Trinity, but the Bantams netted a late goal to conclude the game with a 2-2 tie.
Trinity's James Donaldson opened the scoring with 19:46 expired when he forced goalie
Mathis Blanc '26 off his line and slipped the ball into the lower left side of the goal for a 1-0 edge.
Wesleyan answered at the 26:50 mark.
Aidan Fine '27 raced down the right sideline and sent a beautiful cross into the box that
Lucas Ruehlemann '25 one-timed into the upper right corner to deadlock the contest at one goal apiece.
The Cardinals took advantage of a loose ball in the box during the 41st minute, taking a 2-1 edge.
Will Geballe '26 lofted a pass into the box where
Dylan Clack '27 got a head on the bouncing ball and directed it toward
Evan O'Brien '23 who was able to one-time volley the feed into the back of the goal.
With 78:31 elapsed, Trinity found the game-tying tally on an unexpected play. Donaldson stole the ball from a Wesleyan player around midfield and rifled a shot toward the goal. Blanc was sent backpedaling quickly, but the ball dropped just over his head and trickled into the goal to make it 2-2.
The Cardinals had the best chance for the golden goal with just over 10 minutes remaining, but a Bantam defender was able to just get a head on a shot by
Joshwin Jennings that looked destined for the net.
Ruehlemann's tally was his team-leading fifth of the year through five games, while O'Brien scored his first goal of the season.
Wesleyan returns to the pitch on Sunday, hosting Hamilton at 1:30 PM.
