Anderson’s three-point night lifts Cardinals over Conn. College at home

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – In a 4-1 NESCAC conquest, the Wesleyan men's hockey team was victorious in front of their home crowd for the first time this season as they were led by Kyle Anderson '24 with two goals and an assist on Friday night from Wesleyan's Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

Anderson's three-point night is the most for a Cardinal (4-9-1 overall, 3-5-1 NESCAC) since Go Uemura '23 posted four points on Jan. 21, 2023 against Tufts.

It only took a minute and 24 seconds for Danny Judge '26 to open the scoring for the Cardinals with a puck that was shoved behind Will McEvoy in the middle of a crowded scrum at the goal mouth. Judge jumpstarted his own goal, taking the faceoff down in the Cardinals own zone. The Camels (5-7-2 overall, 3-6-0 NESCAC) won the draw and sent the puck out to center ice where Anderson was able to intercept and hand the puck back off to Judge. Parker Sondag '26 made the initial shot on McEvoy from out center, but Anderson was able to corral the puck through the Camels' defense to Judge at the right post. Quinn Kennedy tied the game up at one at 6:25 to send both teams into the second period.

The Cardinals opened the second period with the man advantage as the Camels were called for cross-checking just seconds into play. Captain Owen Sweet '25 made good use of the Cardinals power play unit and put away the game-winning goal at 19:08. Sweet won the draw off the faceoff and passed the puck back to Patrick Morrissey '24 at the top of the unit who brought the puck in to the corner and made a cross pass to Connor Sutherland '27 at the right post for Sweet at the left post.

Anderson's first goal at 5:58 of the second period came assisted by Judge after Judge picked the puck turnover at the Cardinals blueline and rushed it back down the far boards, making the short pass to Anderson out center. Anderson fell to his right knee to take the one-timer shot for his first goal of the season.

Needing to make a line change with a little more than five minutes remaining in regulation, the Cardinals dumped the puck behind the Camels' goal line but sent Sutherland down to manage possession. Sutherland makes the pass out to Anderson, the first of the Cardinals offense to return, for another heavy one-timer behind McEvoy to seal the game.

Sweet led all Cardinals with four shots on goal while DJ Dixon '24 won 12 draws off the faceoff.

In goal for the Cardinals, Erik Voloshin '24 made 30 saves on the evening. McEvoy made 21 saves at the other end of the ice.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they host Tufts in NESCAC action beginning at 3 p.m.
